First, the famous dresses that started my lookalike obsession. I’ve featured four of these covers before, but have since found two more:
The books are:
- Relative Stranger: A Life After Death by Mary Loudon (Canongate Books, 2006)
- The Easter Parade by Richard Yates (Methuen Publishing, Jan 2003)
- The Honey Thief by Elizabeth Graver (Harcourt Books, 2000)
- Three Ages of Woman by Sarah Willis (Piatkus, 2004)
- Comme un vol d’hirondelles (the French translation of They Came Like Swallows) by William Maxwell (10/18, Jan 2003)
- Forgive Me by Amanda Eyre Ward (Random House, 2007)
The books are:
- Illegally Blonde by Nelsa Roberto (Great Plains Publications, Mar 2010)
- The Girl She Used to Be by David Cristofano (Hachette, 2009)
- Leaving Unknown by Kerry Reichs (Harper Collins, Mar 2010)
- The Best of Times by Penny Vincenzi (Random House, Jun 2010)
- Afterwards by Rosamund Lupton (Piatkus Books, 2011)
That first set... nearly all of them are horrible from a design standpoint. The second set is much more appealing visually and although the same image is used, they seem different enough.
ReplyDeleteI'm not crazy about any of the covers. I'm amazed that they keep using the same image over and over.
ReplyDeleteI'm always a sucker for suitcase and girl-in-the-road-with-suitcase covers -- maybe it's wishful thinking on my part!
ReplyDeleteI'm always fascinated by how lookalikes happen. Out of the millions of images out there, I find it incredibly confusing that the same ones appear again and again.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Audra. A suitcase and a girl turns me into a sucker too.
I'm so glad your obsession with lookalike covers started. These posts are always so fun. I do agree with you that, despite featuring the same photo, the girl running looks very different.
ReplyDeleteI am always amazed at how often a photo is used in the publishing industry.
ReplyDeleteI love this feature!
