Similar Covers: More Swinging Kids

A couple of years ago, I posted a collection of eight similar covers featuring kids on swings. As I said in that post, although, they were not exact matches, they all used the same concept: one or two kids on a swing with nothing else on the cover (except clouds in some cases). This time, I have four sets of exact matches for you (three of these covers were featured in my original post).

First, City of One: A Memoir by Francine Cournos (Longman, 1999) and Le Vol du corbeau (the French translation of The Way the Crow Flies) by Ann-Marie MacDonald (Flammarion, 2004)...

Next, Dear Friend: I’m Here for You by Stacie Orrico (J. Countryman, 2002) and Yesterday Morning: A Very English Childhood by Diana Athill (Granta, 2002)...

-

Then, Les Prodigieuses Aventures des sœurs Hunt (the French translation of The True and Outstanding Adventures of the Hunt Sisters by Elisabeth Robinson (Livre de Poche, 2007) and Oystercatchers by Susan Fletcher (W. W. Norton, 2010)...

And finally, Never the Same: Coming to Terms with the Death of a Parent by Donna Schuurman (St. Martin’s Press, 2003) and Shade by Neil Jordan (John Murray, 2004)...

In every case, except perhaps for the first pair, I prefer the book on the right!

Coincidentally, two of these books have other covers that also have exact matches: The Way the Crow Flies by Ann-Marie MacDonald (check out this “similar covers” post) and Oystercatchers by Susan Fletcher (check out this “similar covers” post).

  1. I think I like the concept of kids on swings, but none of those is that great - the colors aren't right or something.

  2. I find this disturbing! Why so many swing covers?

  3. I can't believe I haven't seen any swinging kids yet! Usually when you do these I've seen the image myself several times. But then again, I'm kind of glad I haven't run into any swinging kids!

  4. I agree, I like the concept but I don't particularly like these covers. I think the colors give me the impression that stories are dark.

  5. I'm beginning to think that if you do this long enough, you'll be able to pair up almost every book cover in existence. I tend to agree with you in preferring the covers on the right.

  6. Girl you keep astounding me everytime I come back for Similar Covers. Makes you realize just how people always come back to the same style for a book.

  7. I agree with you,the ones on the right (except the first) are better. One of these days I'm going to get a copy of each of the matching covers and see how well the photo matches the book itself.
