Mailbox Monday (December 13)

Mailbox Monday buttonMailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books they received during the previous week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists! Mailbox Monday, which was started by Marcia at The Printed Page, is on blog tour—this month, it’s hosted by Lady Q at Let Them Read Books.

I didn’t receive any books in the mail this week, but I did meet up with Amanda from Tales and Treats for a book exchange. These are the books she gave to me:

The only one I’m not sure I want to read is Everything Is Going to Be Great. Can anyone recommend it?

What did you find in your mailbox this past week? For other Mailbox Monday posts, head over to Let Them Read Books.

  1. Enjoy your books from the book exchange. I've read some of them but not Everything Is Going to Be Great.

  2. I received for review The Job by Craig Davis from the author.

Joe B. enjoys the sweet life as a vice president at a huge conglomerate, Universal Whirligig. But along with the Big Boss' favor, he has also gained the notice of a bitter human resources manager, Luci Fernandez. Hateful of any success but her own, Luci manages to get him demoted to the mail room! A rollicking comedy of errors follows as Joe B. tries to figure out what's happened to him, and attempts to get a meeting with the Big Boss. Joe B.'s great expectations have taken a dickens of a twist. His family is forced to make a series of hard adjustments, and he gets only lame comforts from a string of the worst friends anyone could have. Will he finally track down the cause of his frustrations? Or will he only learn a lesson about what it is to be the boss, and that what is apparent is often only a shadow of a greater ongoing good? "The Job: Based on a True Story (I Mean, This is Bound to Have Happened Somewhere) is a modern parable of ancient troubles and truths.

  3. Oh, lots of good books. I have "The Help" and "Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet" waiting for me to read them. I know at some point I'll want to read Pillars of the Earth, but not yet...Enjoy!

  7. What a wonderful set of books. I just loved The Help, one of my all time favorites. I listened to Pillars of the Earth years ago but still remember loving it. I've heard some mixed reviews on Everything is Going to be Great -- I have heard there is a lot of sex and profanity but I haven't read it myself.

  13. Nice stack of books in that exchange. I read Her Fearful Symmetry and liked it but it was a bit strange. I have Year of Wonders and Pillars of the Earth on my tbr shelf.

  15. The Help was very good as was Ken Follett's Pillars. Belong to Me was given to me by my 19-yr old last year. He said he took about an hour in Chapters looking at different books that he thought I would like. At the end, he had two books in his hand but chose this one. Good choice because A) I already read the other book and B) I really enjoyed Belong to Me.
I was very touched that he knows me well enough to choose a book like that.
