Teaser Tuesdays (December 2)

Should Be Reading hosts the Teaser Tuesdays weekly event.

My modified rules are as follows:

Grab your current read. Pick two or three “teaser” sentences more or less at random from the book, anywhere on the page. You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your teaser from… that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given! (Please avoid spoilers!) (Read the official Teaser Tuesday rules.)

My first teaser:

“Let’s call it sickness, a desert malady. Anyone could lose perspective in that heat, weakened by hunger, thirst, and uncertainty. Yet a curious fact about illness, including depression, is that it can bring us clarity. We value the quality of attention that comes to us when we are not well” (p. 98).

This is from Acedia & Me: A Marriage, Monks and A Writer’s Life by Kathleen Norris.

My second teaser:

“For a moment Barbara felt her eyes burn. When she looked at Nell, she knew she was seeing another side of her, relaxed, at ease, the terror deeply buried for the time being” (p. 98).

This is from Death Qualified, the first Barbara Holloway novel by Kate Wilhelm.

  2. Bluestocking, I haven't read that far yet, so I'm not sure what's going on...

  4. How nice of you to give us two teasers in the past few weeks, Avis. I think I have Acedia and Me waiting to be read and reviewed.

  5. Shana, sorry, I somehow missed replying to your comment! Thank you! We'll have to compare notes on Acedia and Me eventually.
