Teaser Tuesdays (January 6)

Should Be Reading hosts the Teaser Tuesdays weekly event.

My modified rules are as follows:

Grab your current read. Pick two or three “teaser” sentences more or less at random from the book, anywhere on the page. You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your teaser from… that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given! (Please avoid spoilers!) (Read the official Teaser Tuesday rules.)

My first teaser:

“Costco was a nightmare, as expected. But somehow it was just the right kind of nightmare. The massive labyrinth of consumerism—with shelves as high as Jack’s beanstalk, and aisles clogged with people who somehow seemed more aggrieved and agitated than I was—suited me” (p. 50).

“Robert Morgan might have rolled the naked flesh of his patients under his palms, probed their organs with his skeleton fingers, but he never paid a whit of attention to their souls. If one ever did emerge, slit free of the body by an incandescent blade of pain, Robert Morgan simply would have had no reference point for it” (p. 5).
