Friday Finds (January 16)
What great books have you discovered this week? Share your Friday Finds at Should Be Reading.
Carrie at Books and Movies listed Broken for You by Stephanie Kallos as her favourite modern literature of 2008. (Check out her other favourites too.) This book had caught my attention before, so it’s definitely on my wish list now. Plus I love the cover!
A friend emailed me recently and recommended The Zookeeper’s Wife by Diane Ackerman. The next day I saw a review of it on Anna and Serena’s War Through the Generations blog. The actual review is by Christopher at Doolittle’s. It sounds like an amazing book!
Doesn’t the title of Driving with Dead People by Monica Holloway make you want to pick up this memoir? (OK, maybe it’s just me.) If the title alone is not enough, read Melissa’s very favourable review on her blog, Shh I’m Reading.

The Zookeeper's Wife does sound good and it would be perfect for The War Challenge which reminds me that I need to get started on that challenge soon.
ReplyDeleteGreat finds! I think The Zookeeper's Wife looks great too.
ReplyDeleteBroken for You is one of my favorites too. I hope you enjoy it! I've been itching to get my hands on a copy of Stephanie Kallos' second book, but I'm trying to be good.
ReplyDeleteI have The Zookeeper's Wife in my TBR collection. I've heard great things about it.
You're right, the title Driving with Dead People is quite tantalizing!
I just stumbled across my copy of Broken for You. With the good reviews I should move it up!
ReplyDeleteThe Zookeepers Wife is on my list to read this year--and yes! Driving with Dead People sounds great and is going on my tbr pile. I love a good memoir!

I read and reviewed Stephanie Kallos's new book SING THEM HOME and liked it a lot so will have to check out BROKEN FOR YOU. If you want to check on the review, please come visit my 8 day old baby blog at http://bookinwithbingo.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity to comment and I want to follow your blog as it is so nicely set up (jealousy at your expertise!) and will list yours on my bloglist. Hope you check on mine as I have a contest ending next Friday and very few entrants for a signed copy of CREEPERS! Thank you!
Great list! I really enjoyed reading The Zookeeper's Wife.
ReplyDeleteI do too, Dar!
ReplyDeleteYeah, Kathy, I'm very interested in that one, although I hardly need to acquire more books at this point!
Literary Feline, your comment made me realize that I'd actually confused Broken for You with her latest book, Sing Them Home and that it was Sing Them Home that I'd heard of before!
I'll be looking out for your review, Melissa!
Me too, Kim, and for some reason I've been drawn to non-fiction that deals with death recently: first Thomas Lynch's The Undertaking, which I'm currently reading; then Nancy Mairs' A Troubled Guest, which I'm about to order from Amazon; and now Driving with Dead People...
Thanks for stopping by, Bingo. I will definitely check out your review of Kallos's book!
Thanks, Alyce! I'm glad to get another recommendation for that book.
Wow, those look great...I've heard The zookeeper's wife is excellent
ReplyDeleteHappy reading.
Thanks, Serena!
