Teaser Tuesdays (November 18)

Should Be Reading hosts the Teaser Tuesdays weekly event.

My modified rules are as follows:

Grab your current read. Pick two or three “teaser” sentences more or less at random from the book, anywhere on the page. You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your teaser from… that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given! (Please avoid spoilers!) (Read the official Teaser Tuesday rules.)

My teaser:

“Her self was an abandoned sampler, half the letters unstitched, the picture in the middle still vague. Looking after elderly parents had made her elderly. The eight months of her stillborn marriage might have been her whole life” (p. 11).

This is from Good to a Fault by Marina Endicott.

I’m sensing a bit of a pattern to my teasers... Compare this one to my first teaser last week and to my second teaser the week before last. Is it just me, or do you see it too?

  2. Interesting likeness lol. Somber is a good word for it too.

  3. Great teaser, I've heard some people say this one should have taken the Giller Prize this year. I will have to give this one a read soon.

  4. Great teaser. I've got to check this book out-sounds intriguing. You've been picking very good teasers lately.

  5. Wendi, Sherry, Gautami and Ladytink, I guess I was in a bit of a somber mood when I picked this teaser! And, yeah, I think it's been a lingering mood for the past few weeks, hence the resemblances between my teasers.

Joanne, I had no idea this book had been nominated for the Giller when I requested it from Mini Book Expo. I'm really enjoying it so far, anyway!

Thank you, Dar! I do handpick them usually in the hopes that they will be more interesting...

  8. Somber, yes, but such great imagery in that first line...

  9. Avis, yeah, definitely an overall SOMBER tone to those teasers.

Kind of like around Halloween, everyone was doing teasers that were very dark and spooky!

  10. Thanks, MissMeliss, I thought so too!

Shana, I didn't intend to be somber, actually. My thought was that all these teasers have something to do with women who are lost in some way or another...
