Really Random Tuesday: Portland Pics

As I mentioned in my Mailbox Monday post yesterday, I visited Portland over Easter (for the first time) with my sister. One of my first stops was Powell’s Books (or, more specifically, Powell’s City of Books, which is their largest store: an entire city block of books!). I must admit I found Powell’s a bit overwhelming: it’s a bit like visiting a dozen bookstores at once! I didn’t take nearly enough pictures, but here’s one of me looking very pleased to be so close to book mecca (click on photos to enlarge):

Me in front of Powell’s City of Books

One of the people we stayed with in Portland works in the library system and she told me about Title Wave, which was right around the corner from her house. I thought the building was lovely (and I was happy to find quite a few graphic novels for $1 or $2 each!).

The Title Wave Used Bookstore

I’m definitely planning to visit Portland again! Have any of you been there? Are there any other used bookstores I should be adding to my list of places to visit?

  1. Powell's was a bit overwhelming when I visited too. I had the kids with me and the little one was still in a stroller when I went so she was not too happy when I stopped every three minutes to check something out. It would be a different experience now. She'd be begging to hit the children's section and The Boy would be looking for cute girls :)

  7. Very cool. Is Powell's bigger than the Strand? Did you like it more?

  10. I'd love to just see Powell's but it sounds awfully large for actual book shopping. I prefer my book stores smaller and cozy! The Title Wave Used Bookstore is in a beautiful building...and I love the store name!
It sounds like you had a good time in Portland and spent some time with books, a perfect visit! I've never been to Portland but would like to go someday!

  11. I love Portland and not just because of Powell's. My husband and I hope to end up in Portland after the kids are finished with school. What a wonderful building to have a used book store. I'll have to look for it next time I'm there.
