Twas my birthday last week and I received a few books as gifts, got a few books in the mail and bought a few myself (all nonfiction as it turns out).
My sis-in law gave me two books for my birthday: Finding Meaning in the Second Half of Life: How to Finally Really Grow Up by James Hollis and Marriage Rules: A Manual for the Married and the Coupled Up by Harriet Lerner. (I’m a big fan of Lerner’s books and this is her latest, so I’m really looking forward to this one!)
I received an unsolicited copy of Speak to the Earth: Pages from a Farm Wife’s Journal by Rachel Peden (from Indiana University Press) and won a copy of Writing Yoga: A Guide to Keeping a Practice Journal by Bruce Black (from Rodmell Press).
And finally I bought myself two more books: Pay Attention, for Goodness’ Sake: Practicing the Perfections of the Heart—The Buddhist Path of Kindness by Sylvia Boorstein and Writing Down Your Soul: How to Activate and Listen to the Extraordinary Voice Within by Janet Conner.

I can't say any of these are my type of book but I do hope you enjoy them!
ReplyDeletePut all together, they do seem like a bit much, even for me, but I am looking forward to reading them all!

DeleteNice selection of non-fiction. I especially enjoy nature writing. I'll have to look for Speak to the Earth. Happy belated birthday.
ReplyDeleteThat one was actually sent to me by mistake, Leslie, but it sound interesting!
DeleteHappy belated birthday! I don't read much non-fiction. I hope you enjoy them all.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jennifer. I seem to be on a non-fiction kick these days. I've been thinking that I might need to change my blog's tag as my "focus on fiction written by women" is not really true anymore!
DeleteHappy belated birthday! I hope you had a great day and your presents look wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Marie! I took the day off for my birthday, which was lovely!

DeleteHappy Belated Birthday! Enjoy all of your books. I'm especially interested in Finding Meaning in the Second Half of Life.
ReplyDeleteKathleen, Mr. B's sister had been telling me I should read that one for such a long time that I very nearly bought it a few weeks before my birthday! (Luckily I restrained myself!)
DeleteI hope you had a great Birthday!! Looks like you have some great non-fiction going on right now!
ReplyDeleteAs I mentioned to Jennifer above, I'm on a non-fic kick these days, Staci, so I'm happy with this stash! :)
DeleteI couldn't help grinning when I saw the titles of the books your sister-in-law gave you. Looks like she's trying to tell you something?!
ReplyDeleteHee-hee, I had the exact same thought when I put this post together, Laura. In fact I almost didn't include those two because of that, but then it wouldn't have been much of a birthday post without them!
DeleteSounds like you had a nice birthday. Enjoy your new books!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mary!
