Similar Covers: Bridal Bouquet on Chair

While I was away on vacation, a new-to-me blogger, Meg (Meg’s Book Shelf) commented on one of my old “similar covers” posts (“Barbie Dolls and Cinched Waists”), suggesting a new lookalike for that post (which I’ve now updated). I, of course, checked out her blog, where I came across a another cover that looked familiar: Necessary Arrangements by Tanya Michna (Signet, 2007). After plugging the image into TinEye, I found three matches:

I dislike all these covers (though the French one is the worst by far; what’s up with the awful colour of the chair?). What do you think? Would you pick up any of these books based on its cover?

  1. I agree, all of them horrible. Especially, the french cover.

  2. They're not great covers by any stretch of the imagination.

  3. I cannot believe all these similar chairs--it's like a set of chairs for a house!!

  4. They are not very interesting covers are they? You would think one could come up with something much better.

  6. The first thing I noticed about these covers is 3 of the books didn't even bother to alter the color of the chair!

I don't think the cover is attractive...it makes me think of those bridal spots...the 'Wedding Factories' that host 10 weddings a day and have nothing really original or attractive to offer a bride.

I know I say this frequently about the simiolar covers...but it never ceases to amaze me how uncreative and seemingly lazy it is too choose a popuar cover for an author's novel. And on top of being the same as several others, this cover isn't pretty or interesting!

  7. That is an ugly photo shot at a straight on, unimaginative angle of an ugly chair in an ugly color. What were they thinking? Avocado green should be reserved for, well, avocados.

  8. Weird that this photo was such a popular choice for covers!

  9. No, these aren't great covers.

The problem with a book's cover using stock photography is that there's a chance it'll be used on another book's cover and therefore an author's book will look very much like another's.
