Similar Covers: Barbie Dolls and Cinched Waists

I have six more covers for you this week: first, a Barbie doll duo: Not Tonight, Honey: Wait til Im a Size 6 by Susan Reinhardt (published in 2005 by Kensington Publishing) and Pretties by Scott Westerfield (published in 2006 by Simon & Schuster); next, a foursome of cinched waists (of sorts): The Jerusalem Diet: Guided Imagery and the Personal Path to Weight Control by Judith Besserman, Fat Cat by Robin Brande, Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld and Boy Vey!: The Shiksas Guide to Dating Jewish Men by Kristina Grish.

I can’t say that I like any of these covers; the creepiest of the lot is the first one, which just highlights how wrong Barbie is, proportionally speaking. I’m especially disturbed by her legs!

Edited to add:
As Jenners pointed out in the comments section, the diet section is likely to contain other books that would fit with these ones. I found one recently, The New Me Diet: Eat More, Work Out Less, and Actually Lose Weight While You Rest by Jade Teta and Keoni Teta, which came out in early 2010.

Edited again to add:
As Meg pointed out in the comments section, In Pursuit of the Ideal: Finding Your Identity and Living in True Freedom by Nancy M. Wilson resembles the first two covers, so I’ve added it in as well. It was published in 2004.

  3. I agree : I can't say that I like any of these covers either. In fact, I would absolutely not pick up any of these books at the bookstore - especially not the first two!

  6. Barbie is really creepy!!

And I bet if you looked exclusively in the diet section, you could find about 100 more of the second row!

  7. I just love these jacket posts. I used to be an editor and out of 24 books, 2 of them had the cover images reused quickly. One we found out just befor ethe book came out so the Art department was able to change the color of the shirt and the font and treatment a bit, but the other book came out a couple of months after mine and we had no idea till I saw it in a bookstore. My publisher was rather cheap and wouldn't pay for exclusive rights to an image.
