Similar Covers: Hands (Part 1)

I was looking through a Shelf Awareness newsletter yesterday and came across a familiar-looking cover: Angel and Apostle by Deborah Noyes features an image used on the cover of Courage by Maria Tumarkin. However, it turns out the books were published in the opposite order: according to Amazon, Angel and Apostle came first, in September 2006 (published by Unbridled Books), while Courage was published a year later, in October 2007, by Melbourne University Publishing.

  1. Since the photo is treated differently on the covers, they have a different feel to me.

  2. I agree with Bermudaonion ... although they are clearly the same photo, the covers seem so different. You continue to amaze me with what you find.

  3. Kathy and Jenners, I agree; because the two photos are different colours and cropped differently, the woman looks like she has a wider face on the cover of Courage. I stared at them for a long time before I was completely convinced that they were the same photo!

  4. Amazing that I never notice this until you post these covers. Did you know that I now go to B&N and say to my son "Hey, that book has the same cover as so and so." He just looks at me and shakes his head!! LOL!!

  5. Staci, whereas before I used to go into book stores and buy way too many books (much to my partner's chagrin; he hates book piles on the floor), I now go into book stores with pen and paper and write down the titles of books with similar covers (and usually leave empty-handed, which is good for both my relationship and my wallet)! But hey, if you find any you want to pass along to me, please do!

  6. I prefer Angel and Apostle. It's just more striking to me with the writing on the palm.
