I was looking through a Shelf Awareness newsletter yesterday and came across a familiar-looking cover: Angel and Apostle by Deborah Noyes features an image used on the cover of Courage by Maria Tumarkin. However, it turns out the books were published in the opposite order: according to Amazon, Angel and Apostle came first, in September 2006 (published by Unbridled Books), while Courage was published a year later, in October 2007, by Melbourne University Publishing.
Since the photo is treated differently on the covers, they have a different feel to me.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bermudaonion ... although they are clearly the same photo, the covers seem so different. You continue to amaze me with what you find.
ReplyDeleteKathy and Jenners, I agree; because the two photos are different colours and cropped differently, the woman looks like she has a wider face on the cover of Courage. I stared at them for a long time before I was completely convinced that they were the same photo!
ReplyDeleteAmazing that I never notice this until you post these covers. Did you know that I now go to B&N and say to my son "Hey, that book has the same cover as so and so." He just looks at me and shakes his head!! LOL!!
ReplyDeleteStaci, whereas before I used to go into book stores and buy way too many books (much to my partner's chagrin; he hates book piles on the floor), I now go into book stores with pen and paper and write down the titles of books with similar covers (and usually leave empty-handed, which is good for both my relationship and my wallet)! But hey, if you find any you want to pass along to me, please do!
ReplyDeleteI prefer Angel and Apostle. It's just more striking to me with the writing on the palm.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing these similar covers, especially since I am a big time cover nut. thanks
