Crazy Cat Story & Giveaway of Simon’s Cat by Simon Tofield

Reading Simon's Cat by Simon Tofield with CairoBefore I give you any giveaway details, I wanted to share a crazy cat story, which one of the drawings in Simon’s Cat reminded me of. As many of you know, I am owned by two cats, Thelma (in box below) and Cairo (left, reading Simon’s Cat with me; click on photos to enlarge). Years ago, I woke up one morning lying on my belly, clutching something in my hand. When I opened my eyes and looked at it, it turned out to be a dead rodent, which Cairo had kindly deposited in the bed with me. Luckily my mother was visiting, so when I screamed, she came rushing in and took care of things. (Again luckily, there was no blood to be seen anywhere.) I vaguely remembered being woken in the night by Cairo running around madly, but I’d been too groggy to pay much attention.

More recently, both Cairo and I spotted a mouse running across the kitchen floor and under the fridge. Cairo then spent the rest of the day standing guard in front of the fridge, hoping the mouse would reappear. I must admit I’m kinda glad that (a) the mouse didn’t reappear and hasn’t been seen or heard from since and (b) Cairo is now too geriatric to be chasing (and killing) mice!

OK, enough about that, on to the giveaway details!

As I mentioned last Friday, Simon's Cat by Simon TofieldHachette has generously offered to send copies of Simon’s Cat by Simon Tofield to five of my readers. The giveaway is open to U.S. and Canadian residents only (no P.O. boxes). I will accept entries until 11:59 PM Eastern Time on Sunday, December 6.

For one entry, post a comment here. Please be sure to provide me with a way of getting in touch with you. Entries without a blog link or email address will be disqualified.

Other ways to earn entries:
+1 if you comment on my review of Simon’s Cat (if you’ve already done so, that counts too)
+1 if you share a crazy cat story of your own
+1 if you are a follower or subscriber

Best of luck!

Thelma in a box
Thelma, keeping an eye on things!

  7. My cat Ruby has several "toy" mice (not the real kind like yours!). She likes to keep them in the kitchen and then shove them across the smooth floor so they end up under the stove and refrigerator. Then I have to get the yardstick out. Both Ruby and Reba come running and sit and watch while I push them out with the yardstick. The next thing Ruby does is carry them to us in the TV room. We throw them and she fetches them and brings them back several times. Guess she thinks she is a dog!

  13. My crazy cat story:
My youngest cat is a black kitten with white paws & accents, Betsy. Betsy is 9 months old. I was in the bathroom one day, cleaning, tidying up. My elbow brushed against the shower curtain a few times. Suddenly, I heard this strange sound and part of the shower curtain shot out of the tub. I pushed it back in and it happened again almost immediately. Betsy was in the tub and thought there was something worth attacking on the other side of the curtain so she attacked several times by throwing her little body, paws first at the shower curtain!
I dragged my husband into the bathroom and watched while he poked the shower curtain and Betsy threw herself at it from in the tub. LOL!
It's a little hard to describe but pretty funny if you're there experiencing it!

No real crazy cat story, but my first cat (when I was a kid) loved to use my bed as a landing pad. She'd start at the end of the hall and gallop along (sounding like a HERD of elephants), launch herself from my bedroom door, and land in the middle of my stomach. I think it was her way of telling me it was time for breakfast.

  22. Oh my gosh, I would freak out if I woke up with a dead mouse in my hand! Ick!

That reminds me of when my cats first started going outside (my hubby put up a cat fence for them and a cat door in the house) I was walking along in the hall on my way to the living room when I saw my cat, Trixie, playing with something. I figured it was a bug cause they had started bringing bugs into the house so I flipped the light on and was going to get the bug to take it back outside when I noticed..not a bug but a SNAKE!! I screamed my hubby came running and I had him catch the snake and get it outside. *shudders*

Anyway, I would love to be entered. :) I'm follower now too.

  23. Awww...that's so...cute? Not sure that's the right word since it is a dead animal, but I suppose to the kitty it was. So glad my dogs feel no need to do that. The only "crazy" cat story I have as I am more of a dog person, is in regards to a loveable stray we took care of where I use to live (no worries, a different neighbor cares for them now). This poor kitty was so afraid of people, it took a while just to get her to trust us enough to eat the food we left out. Once we got her use to us, she would hang around by the door when we came home. One night, we were taking our one dog (read that as big German Shepherd with a heart of gold) out for a walk and said kitty was outside. Well, instead of running, the little baby started rubbing all around our dogs feet. She being a gentle giant, proceded to nose and sniff her. How's that for an unlikely friendship!

    Thanks!

  27. I use to babysit my sister's cat , Mom, every winter. In the summer, she was a farm cat. She started out a city cat, my sister adopted her when she (the cat) got pregnant - that's how she got her name. Yes, I know, very imaginative :-)

Anyway, to shorten the story. Mom use to attack my toes when ever she slept with me and she always came when I called. I miss her.

  30. +1 entry if you think this cat story counts as crazy... the most hilarious thing my cat ever did was to crawl inside a pillowcase (which was on a pillow!) and fall asleep in there. When he woke up he couldn't find his way out again, so he thrashed around like a pillow monster for several minutes. It was hilarious.

+1 My aunt's cats were desperate to go outside, but they were declawed and couldn't go out by themselves. She bought harnesses so she could walk them, but once she put them on, they flattened themselves right to the floor. She could actually sweep them around the house like that, and they still wouldn't detach themselves from the floor!

  34. I just saw the Simon's Cat youtube cartoons for the first time last month--we laughed so hard! I'd love to be entered in the contest. Kyflight1(at)hotmail.com

We have a cat who does a lot of the same things Simon's cat does in the cartoons. She is especially good at stretching herself r-e-a-l-l-y long to take up two seats on the sofa if you get up, then looking cute so you don't want to move her!

You have a new follower, too. :3

  36. One of my cats (when he was a kitten) used to sleep in the sleeve of my coat after I took it off and draped it over a chair! I always had to check to see if he was in there before I picked up the coat so I wouldn't dump him out! SO adorable!!

  41. I had a cat named Twit when I was a teenager. One day, my mom found a mouse in the bathtub so she put him in to kill it. He played with it and chased it around the tub for awhile and then just jumped out. My mom had to kill it with a broom...she wasn't happy. Next day, Twit goes back to the tub to play with his new toy again. He was very disappointed to find it gone. Guess he never got the memo about the whole hunting thing. Bless him. LOL!

    Thanks!

  51. I would love to win this book. I've had cats all my life. My first cat's name was Mitch (named after Mitch Miller because he a a goatee)

    Funny story:
I remember one time my dad had just gotten done filling the tub with water to take a bath, well anyway, the cat went flying down the hallway and flew right into the tub of water. of course, you couldn't help laughing but then we had to wrap him up in a towle to dry him off.

    Thanks for the chance.
