BBAW Day 3: Reading meme
Today’s assignment is a reading meme. I’m going to try to answer these questions as briefly as possible, although the recommended five words or less is pretty hard!
Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack?
Chocolate (if I do snack, which is rarely).
Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?
I’m horrified by the idea!
How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying
the book flat open?
Bookmark (although many things serve as bookmarks in my world!)
Fiction, nonfiction, or both?
More fiction but both.
Hard copy or audiobooks?
Hard copy only.
Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point?
If possible I read to the end of chapters (or sections of some kind).
If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away?
Nope, but I do write it down and look it up later. (I blame Kathy for this habit!)
What are you currently reading?
Fingerprints of God: The Search for the Science of Spirituality by Barbara Bradley Hagerty
Why I Hate Saturn by Kyle Baker
What is the last book you bought?
The Likeness by Tana French
Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can you read more than one at a time?
Usually one, sometimes two, very rarely more.
Do you have a favorite time of day and/or place to read?
At night in bed probably, although I read just about anywhere.
Do you prefer series books or standalone books?
Standalone.
Is there a specific book or author that you find yourself recommending over and over?
Most recently, I’ve recommended No One You Know by Michelle Richmond to quite a few people, as well as Skim by Mariko Tamaki and Jillian Tamaki
How do you organize your books (by genre, title, author’s last name, etc.)?
By genre then alphabetically by author and by title.

Oh Skim was good wasn't it? I have No One You Know on my shelves and am looking forward to it!
ReplyDeleteSkim sounds interesting!
ReplyDeleteBBAW: Reading meme
You're much nicer to your books than I am. Great answers!
ReplyDeleteFor once in my life, I've been blamed for a good habit! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm still trying to develop the looking up words habit - would love to play Kathy's Wondrous Words game!
ReplyDeleteFingerprints of the Gods sounds very interesting.
Our answers are a lot similar! I'm interested about Fingerprints of God. Will wait for your thoughts..
ReplyDeleteI shudder at the thought of writing in a book. Horrified is a strong word, but my body physically shakes when I see a book that has been written in. I'm a freak!
ReplyDeleteI don't really snack, but when I do it's popcorn. Can't wait to see what you think about The Likeness.
ReplyDeleteI can put a book down at any point really but I prefer to read it all in one go... which means I usually stay up until the wee hours of the next morning!
ReplyDeleteWriting in books horrifies me too!
ReplyDeleteWOW....Organize???? you are amazing :)
ReplyDeleteI just got "No One You Know" to read (at some point) so perhaps I found it via you. I should really write that stuff down...I'm terrible about it.
ReplyDeleteAnd I tend not to look up words ... and I feel guilty every time I see Bermudaonion's meme!
I'm still trying to get in the habit of writing unfamiliar words down, but I usually forget. Glad to hear that it's possible to learn! :)
ReplyDeleteThe Fingerprints of God book sounds really interesting! I'm curious to hear what you think of it.
ReplyDeleteI, too, am horrified at the idea of writing in books! It was so hard to get used to marking textbooks in college ...
ReplyDeleteAnother blogger suggested looking up unknown words on the omnipresent cell phone; I may try that, as my notes to myself tend to scatter :)
I enjoyed your answers. I don't like the idea of writing in books either, but I did it in college. And as an English major, a lot of the books I wrote in were novels. You should see my copy of Jane Eyre. It makes me cringe to see it now.

It really is hard to keep it short, isn't it? At least for me. :-) I am not too familiar with Skim. I'll have to check that one out.
