No books in my mailbox this week, but I came across a copy of Effigy by Alissa York on sale at Chapters and had to snatch it up!
I also blame Cindy and Jen for inciting me to buy more books over the weekend. (I first read about Jen’s “No BEA? Books Anyway!” post on Cindy’s blog, Cindy’s Love of Books.) Since I missed both BEA and the Twitter pity party organized by Rebecca at The Book Lady’s Blog, this was the perfect excuse to head out in the rain yesterday to my local secondhand bookstore...
I was very happy to find copies of Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen and Keeping Watch by Laurie R. King for only $1.25 for both books!
I also bought two books I already own, which I will be giving away in a “Pay It Forward” giveaway sometime soon: The Pilot’s Wife by Anita Shreve and Vinegar Hill by A. Manette Ansay. (I only just noticed that they are both Oprah’s Book Club picks. I know some folks shy away from Oprah’s picks, but I thought they were both really good books!)
What did you find in your mailbox this past week? For other Mailbox Monday posts, head over to Marcia’s blog, The Printed Page.
You got some great books!
ReplyDeleteFun week indeed for you :D

You're so lucky to have a used bookstore nearby! The nearest one to me is a bit of a drive, so I always end up at Chapters instead. Buying books you've already read to "Pay It Forward" is so nice!
ReplyDeleteI loved Water for Elephants! Great choices. I hope you enjoy the books!

ReplyDeleteYes you can have lost boy when I am done reading it Avis. I actually knew you would ask me for it.
Okay if you have to blame someone you have to blame Jen cause she started it. LOL I just followed suit.
What great bargains! I loved Water For Elephants. It was especially good for a club read. Enjoy your excellent finds!
ReplyDeleteWater for Elephants was a favorite of mine; hope you like it too.

It sounds like Cindy is a bad influence! You found some great deals, though.
ReplyDeleteNice prices! Thanks for participating in "No BEA? Books Anyway!"
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone, for your comments. I couldn't believe it when the bookseller offered me his trade paperbacks for a quarter each! I was especially happy to find Water for Elephants because I heard so many great things about it last year. Thanks, Jen and Cindy, for inspiring this book buying!
ReplyDeleteThanks again, Cindy, for Lost Boy!
I enjoyed both The Pilot's Wife and Vinegar Hill. Happy reading!
