Teaser Tuesdays (May 5)

Should Be Reading hosts the Teaser Tuesdays weekly event.

My modified rules are as follows:

Grab your current read. Pick two or three “teaser” sentences more or less at random from the book, anywhere on the page. You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your teaser from… that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given! (Please avoid spoilers!) (Read the official Teaser Tuesday rules.)

My first teaser:

“Katie was a merciless interrogator, and she had an uncanny way of reading Ida’s most secret thoughts. Katie always had to know all, down to the most intimate and embarrassing details, which she picked over with relish, like a carnivorous bird” (p. 75).

This is from Katherine’s Wish by Linda Lappin.

My second teaser:

“She was always getting lost or losing people only to find them again, to her great surprise, round the next tree or the next corner. ‘Oh, there you are after all’” (p. 27).

This is from “Prelude” in Bliss and Other Stories by Katherine Mansfield.

  6. This has nothing to do with your Teasers .... but I wanted to tell you that the other day, my husband and I were shopping and saw one of your "lookalike" covers and he pointed it out to me ... he actually read your posts and remembered them!!! This is HUGE because he is an avowed non-reader but, being a sweet man, he reads my blogs and he actually clicked on the links I had to your lookalike covers. You could have knocked me over with a feather I was so suprised! Just cracked me up!

  7. For all of you who expressed an interest in Katherine's Wish, I'll be giving away a copy sometime in late May or early June!

I hope you managed to find the story, Nan. I must admit I'm not sure I'm enjoying Mansfield's writing.

Jenners, that's great! Thanks so much for sharing that story with me. It's funny because I used to go to my local chain bookstore and buy too many books, but now I can spend an hour or two in there just looking at covers to see if there are any I recognize (and I usually don't buy anything!).
