I’ve been noticing a lot of blue butterflies on book covers recently and I think it’s time I shared my findings with you. The first three books are Why Beauty Is Truth by Ian Stewart, Fragile Eternity by Melissa Marr and The Sound of Butterflies by Rachael King. (Some of you will recognize the cover to Fragile Eternity, which was featured in a lookalike post on Alea’s blog, Pop Culture Junkie for a different reason.)
The next three are Journey to the River Sea by Eva Ibbotson, Still Alice by Lisa Genova and The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson.
Has anyone else come across blue butterfly covers? Please let me know if you have!
Edited to add: Here are some more...
April Witch by Majgull Axelsson, The Collector by John Fowles and The Cloud Forest by Peter Matthiesson...
Eating Memories by Patricia Anthony, Fate by Jennifer Lynn Barnes and Blue Twilight by Jessica Speart...
More than It Hurts You by Darin Strauss, Of Marriageable Age by Sharon Maas and The Blue Butterfly by Richard Burns.
With thanks to One Swede Read, Brogan, Sheri at Bookopolis and Damyanti at Writing on Writing for pointing out other butterfly covers!
I love this post! These covers are so beautiful - I can understand why the butterflies are so popular :)
ReplyDeleteHere's a classic one:

I guess there are trends even in the book cover world.
ReplyDeleteOh pretty! I love these! I have another one with butterflies coming up, I'm not sure if they are blue though!
ReplyDeleteWow! They are so pretty. I'm especially enamored with the cover of Fragile Eternity. It's the kind of book I'd acquire if only so I could stare at the cover. :D Good thing it's a great read as well.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for Fragile Eternity! :)
ReplyDeleteI tend to love butterfly covers, especially the blue ones. The colors are so attractive.

I wonder if butterfly color "means" something ... the way that different rose colors do :)
ReplyDeleteI love it! I adore butterflies and these covers are just so eye catching to me.
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful, though, aren't they.
ReplyDeleteand all blue butterflies too! wow. that's a trend and a half.
ReplyDeleteI've noticed this too! Good thing I like blue butterflies huh?
ReplyDeleteWhat a strange trend. Especially that they're all blue butterflies, not yellow or orange, etc. I hadn't noticed, but I will now, the next time I'm at the bookstore.
ReplyDeleteWell, there's "Blue twilight" by Jessica Speart, but I am sure there's another one as well.
ReplyDeleteIt's something I've seen at the library. I will have to keep my eye out!
I just came across another blue butterfly and thought of you!
ReplyDelete"Fate" by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

That's really interesting. I've never read a book with a butterfly on the cover.
ReplyDeleteI've had my own version of the butterfly thing happen - I've been running across a lot of books lately that have the word Tomato in the title. It's so weird.
"Of Marriageable Age" By Sharon Maas also has a blue butterfly on its cover. A blue butterfly does figure in the novel itself, if I'm not mistaken.
ReplyDeleteAlso, see the cover of "The Blue Butterfly" by Richard Burns.
ReplyDeleteThanks to everybody who mentioned other blue butterfly covers! I've updated my post!
ReplyDeleteAlea, I'm looking forward to your butterfly cover post!
Dawn, I'd never thought of that before, but maybe! I noticed that Fowles has a blue butterfly on the main page of his website too...
Angie, I'm very curious about your tomato titles! That is quite weird. The only one I can think of is Tomato Girl (which I have but haven't read yet).
For the record, I don't actually own most of these books (in fact, the only one I own is Eating Memories).
butterflies are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI agree, Serena, and I particularly like blue ones!
ReplyDeleteI found it!! I knew there was another book with a blue butterfly--funniest part is, I had it home and read before I realized it was it!!! "The diving bell and the butterfly" by Jean-Dominique Bauby (the edition that came out before the movie). I don't know if you can find a JPEG of post-able quality (also the back cover has a smaller-scale blue butterfly on it which is actually prettier than the front cover). I recommend this movie, by the way.
ReplyDelete(I read the book in English so maybe the reading was better in French...the movie really impressed me, the book less so, after having seen the movie).
Brogan, I'm sorry I didn't reply to your comment earlier! When I read your comment I immediately went to find the book cover (there are actually at least two blue butterfly covers for that book), but then forgot all about it. I may just have to do another blue butterfly post because I've found quite a few others...
ReplyDeleteI found three, but you found so many. I never knew there were so many covers with blue butterflies.
ReplyDelete~ Popin
There didn't realise that there are so many covers with blue butterflies!
ReplyDeleteI found another blue butterfly cover! Summer lovers by Barbara Delinsky (three novels in one)...I didn't read it! Just saw it on the library shelf today.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny you should mention that book, Brogan, because I also noticed it in your library a couple of days ago!
