Mailbox Monday (January 26)
I got a box in the mail this week (very exciting!), which contained the following three books courtesy of Harper Collins Canada:
The Sister by Poppy Adams
Sing Them Home by Stephanie Kallos
The House on Fortune Street by Margot Livesey
I also got together with three local bloggers on the weekend (Cindy of Cindy’s Love of Books, Donna of BookBound and Tina of Bookshipper) to chat and exchange books. I scored four more books:
The Future Homemakers of America by Laurie Graham
Sister Wife by Shelley Hrdlitschka
Getting the Girl by Susan Juby
A Fortunate Age by Joanna Smith Rakoff
Both Sister Wife and Getting the Girl are YA books, which I don’t read very often, but hey they both sound good. More on my attempts to move outside my comfort zone in my next post!
What did you find in your mailbox this past week? For other Mailbox Monday posts, head over to Marcia’s blog, The Printed Page.

You had a good week! I'm a couple of chapters into Sing Them Home, and it's going well. Can't wait to read your thoughts...
ReplyDeleteWell you certainly received some good books! I just saw Sing Them Home sitting on my co-workers desk this morning...what a coincidence!
ReplyDeleteHi Avis - Thanks for your comment!
ReplyDeleteYou are right 'A Fortunate Age' must come from Tina - it's not one of mine.
Nice haul this week!
Avis- yea A Fortunate Age was from Tina.
ReplyDeleteYou got some great books last week.
I can't wait to hear what you think of Sister Wife.
See you in Febuary.
That is so cool that you could meet other bloggers. I know where Cindy is so you must be in the same province. I'm one over to the west of you and I'm jealous. I've got Sister from the library right now, I hope it's good. And I'd love to read Sing Me Home. Happy reading. I only got one book this week but I'm actualy relieved. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteYay, I'm glad you're enjoying Sing Them Home, Jill. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for your review.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I was pretty surprised by the box from Harper Collins—I wasn't expecting so many books at once!
You're welcome, Myckyee, and thanks for contributing to my haul!
I'm really looking forward to reading it, Cindy, thanks again for passing it on to me!
Sandra, it's too bad you're not closer, we'd love to have you join us! I know what you mean about being relieved when you have a slow week. I'm having trouble keeping up with all my reviews!
Sorry, Jo-Jo, I forgot to address that second comment to you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice variety of books. I've been wanting to read The Sister for awhile. It's received mixed reviews but it sounds interesting to me.
ReplyDeleteTeddy Rose, I have a recollection of coming across negative reviews of The Sister too, but it's does sound interesting to me plus I love books about sisters. And hey, just because other folks didn't like a book doesn't mean I won't love it!
ReplyDeleteWow - great week! Happy Reading!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of getting together and swapping books with local bloggers - I'll have to see if there are any in my area who would be interested.
Here's my Mailbox! ~ Wendi
Avis, I like the variety you received. The Sisters I have heard a lot about. Please share what you think when you read it.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to be a part of MM.
Wisteria
Thanks, Wendi! Yeah, getting together with local bloggers has been lots of fun (we've done it three times now). We actually found each other via LibraryThing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by, Wisteria! I will definitely write a review of The Sister once I read it (though it may take a while for me to get to it!).
I am so jealous of Sing Them Home! I loved Kallos's first book, Broken for You, and have een coveting Sing Them Home since it came out. Can't wait to read your thoughts on it!
ReplyDeletelooks like another great stack of books. happy reading
ReplyDeleteYou got lots of great-looking books this week, and it's so cool that you met up with some other bloggers!
ReplyDeleteI have Sister, Wife on my pile to read this week. Hope you enjoy all your reading :)
Glad you had a great time meeting up with the bloggers! Happy reading!

Diary of an Eccentric
That meet-up sounds so fun! The Sister is on my wish list - I hope you enjoy it Avis.
ReplyDeleteYou had a great week. Sing Them Home looks really good - can't wait to see what you think of it.
ReplyDeleteI do hope I love it, Carrie! I've heard folks say it's not as good as her first one, but I won't have that point of comparison since I haven't read Broken for You (yet!).
ReplyDeleteThanks, Serena!
Yeah, it's fun to hang out with other bloggers, Joanne and Anna. I've already finished Sister Wife and totally enjoyed it!
The only issue with the meet-up this time, Shana, was that the tea house we went to had run out of hot chocolate! (It's the best hot chocolate I've ever had — they make it with real chocolate infused with tea — so you can understand my disappointment!) I've heard mixed reviews of The Sister, but it really sounds like my type of book.
Sing Them Home seems to be a popular one, Kathy; lots of folks are commenting on that one!
Thank you for stopping by the 'mailbox' this week. How fun to get together with fellow bloggers. Enjoy your books!
ReplyDeleteOooh, Sing Them Home sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Marcia!
ReplyDeleteThat's what I keep hearing, Melissa!
