Teaser Tuesdays (November 4)

Should Be Reading hosts the Teaser Tuesdays weekly event.

My modified rules are as follows:

Grab your current read. Pick two or three “teaser” sentences more or less at random from the book, anywhere on the page. You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your teaser from… that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given! (Please avoid spoilers!) (Read the official Teaser Tuesday rules.)

My first teaser:

“Marina woke from her dream with a feeling of déjà vu. It was a repeating coda, always the same and always the last one she had before opening her eyes to consciousness. Every morning for the last two months, she’d woken up trying to speak through the roses in her mouth, trying to get the man to turn around” (pp. 123-124).

This is from The Grift by Debra Ginsberg.

My second teaser:

“You could walk a hundred blocks and pass a thousand people and no one would ever notice you, even if, five minutes ago, your face was on everyone’s television, on the front page of every paper. That fast, you could become a ghost. I was already losing myself, slipping through the fissures that were suddenly appearing in the facade of my life. I was vapor” (p. 77).

This is from Beautiful Lies by Lisa Unger.

  1. I've never heard of either of these books, but based on the teasers they both sound quite intriguing. Thanks!

  3. They both sound great - Beautiful Lies in particular. The thought of roses through her mouth in The Grift sounds appalling.

  6. Hey. Both of these sound good. I believe I have heard of Lisa Unger before. But I don't remember the context.

And I saw your tag. I will put my answers up in the next few days when I have a minute. It's my first time being tagged (that I know of).

  11. Sorry, everyone, for not replying to your comments sooner! It's a bit weird now because I've actually finished reading both of these books. I'm glad you all enjoyed my teasers!

Booksplease, keep in mind that it's a dream, but yeah, I agree it's quite creepy!

    Cheryl, it's actually a woman!

Nicole, glad to hear you were into being tagged!

Ramya, yup, grift is a real word -- it means a con.

I should be reviewing these books soon!
