Teaser Tuesdays (October 28)

Should Be Reading hosts the Teaser Tuesdays weekly event.

My modified rules are as follows:

Grab your current read. Pick two or three “teaser” sentences more or less at random from the book, anywhere on the page. You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your teaser from… that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given! (Please avoid spoilers!) (Read the official Teaser Tuesday rules.)

My teasers:

“I sat. I watched. If a girl could sling a poem over her swimwear as though it were an old T-shirt, what else might be possible?” (p. 7)

“Clare had wanted to say something good in response to this, something original and declamatory about her school, how it smelled or didn’t, something to let her mother know that they were a team, two interesting people who noticed smells and soullessness. Clare tried hard to toss off sharp, quirky comments in front of her mother, to quip, is how she thought of it, the way girls in books were always quipping” (p. 14)

These are from Love Walked In by Marisa de los Santos. Can you tell that I want to quote great reams of this marvellous book to you?

  3. I read Belong to Me, which was the sequel to Love Walked In, but I didn't know it at the time - anyway, I absolutely loved it. I have Love Walked In waiting on my to-read stack.

  8. Great teasers! I agree, "quip" is a word that I've read and written, but I don't use it in conversation.

My niece (and others) have recommended this; I'll have to put it on my infamous wish list.
