Teaser Tuesdays (October 21)

Should Be Reading hosts the Teaser Tuesdays weekly event.

My modified rules are as follows:

Grab your current read. Pick two or three “teaser” sentences more or less at random from the book, anywhere on the page. You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your teaser from… that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given! (Please avoid spoilers!) (Read the official Teaser Tuesday rules.)

My teaser:

“For the rest of the journey he was as pleasant as the most humble and sincere gentleman, calling upon the delights of the fair weather. He spoke of the flowers in the gardens we passed and his love of the rose. He never pressed himself upon me, showing such deference and delight at my company that it was as if I were riding with a man who was wholly different from he who had just attacked me with my own words” (p. 281).

This is from The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff.

I'm amazed at how much I like it - I was worried when I read a few reviews that didn't like it.
